At MOReCC, we passionately believe in serving others beyond the walls of our church building. Whether we are reaching out just around the corner or somewhere else in the Vernon Parish area, we feel compelled to serve those in need in our own backyard. We frequently seek ways to gather together en masse or as a few to build, to dig, to paint, to feed, and to care for the people around us. We’ve been honored to help single parents with school uniforms and supplies, providing food for families in need, helping with utilities when families were without electricity, providing building supplies and other resources to other local ministries and non-profit organizations, and the like. We are always searching and praying for new opportunities to serve and care for our local community. Here are a few of the current efforts underway that you can participate in :
Michael is a very precious young man that we met this past summer. Michael suffers from Alternating Hemiplegia, a disorder that is characterized by recurrent episodes of paralysis on one side of the body and muscle spasms on the other. Unfortunately, Michael's parents are both disabled and struggle to meet the basic needs of the household. A health care provider contacted us and asked if we could possibly assist the family with some repairs to the house Michael lived in, particularly to his bedroom. Upon inspection it was determined that the room had suffered considerable water dammage over time, had considerable mold damage and structurally was not in the best of shape to even remodel. After prayerfully considering all of our options we decided to just build a new, single room cabin adjoining the current house for Michael to live in. Watch for picture updates of our progress and perhaps you might be interested in joining us in this effort to help Michael to the Glory of God.
DARE Bike Run: MCC is a sponsor for the annual DARE Bike Run, a 25 mile bike ride by 5th graders from the vernon parish schools. MCC provides the water, snacks and mans the relief stations along the way, as well as encourages the kids to safely finish the course.
Friendship Feast: MCC participates in the Leesville Friendship Feast, a free weekly community meal to be shared with anyone in the Leesville community. This is a ministry of the Leesville United Methodist Church and MCC participates by cooking and serving one of the weekly meals every other month.
Never Alone: Never Alone is a MCC ministry to single parents in the greater Leesville area. We serve these parents by providing assistance with school uniforms, school supplies, shoes, as well as sometimes attending parent or class events as a "substitute parent" when parents need one or as schedules don't allow them to attend mulitple children events at the same time. Sometime this ministry supports the parents with financial assistance for housing, food, car repairs, etc.
